Before I start this chapter review, I need to preface it with the fact that Daily 5 has been successful in my classroom mainly because I have been able to adapt it to my kindergarten students and their needs and behaviors. You can’t be afraid to do the same. Just because something doesn’t work, don’t ditch the whole philosophy! It's just like what we know about differentiated instruction . . . Assess, instruction, adjust! Each year that you do it, you will find ... VIEW POST

Differentiated and Aligned Visual Station Plans and some freebies for St. Pat’s Day
Ahh.... visual plans. I have a love hate relationship with them. I love how easy they make life. Everything I do is here, aligned with differentiating laid out. My administrator LOVES them. It also makes it easy to know what activity by looking. I admit, I'm terrible with names and I can look back at lesson plans from years back and think . . .'what does that mean? or what activity is called that?' This way, I can look and know immediately. But...it's a TON of work. In the past I ... VIEW POST
Peek at My Week and Plans . . . Daily 5 Here We Go!
Well, I made it through the first week of school. In one piece and with my wits still about me. I call that a 'win.' I'm trying to get myself in some kind of routine to post my plans for all of you. Slowly but surely, I'm making my first attempt of the year. It's a bit tough when your class is still in the 'learning procedures and routines' stage and when you start school about three weeks later than everyone, but for what it's worth, here is a peak at my up-coming week. I'm linking up ... VIEW POST
Setting Up For A Successful Year Of Daily 5 In Kindergarten
The beginning of the kindergarten year is such a blur. About halfway through it, you try to look back and figure out exactly how it all started. It gets difficult to remember the hard work and organization that it took to get your from there to where you are now, but by remembering the parts that went well and the parts that didn't, you can always improve each year. So I'm trying, desperately to make sure I document these first days of math stations and now Daily 5 Stations so I can adjust ... VIEW POST
Chapter 3 and Time for a Freebie!
It's time for my reflections on Chapter 3! I love that we are getting into the nuts and bolts of D5 now. This is the putting it all together, getting organized and making it work . . . all starting to come together little by little. So here's what I came up with while I followed along with Tammy's guiding questions:1. Establish a gathering place for brain and body breaks. (Do you call your gathering place anything special? A few of my teammates did. Annie called ... VIEW POST
Playing Catch Up With My Daily 5 Plans
It's late start Monday (when we all get to meet with our grade levels for Professional Learning Communities work) today, so my Daily 6 (my version of Daily 5) stations are pushed back a day this week. The good news is that it gave me an extra day to collect some pictures to add to my visual plans for the week. If you need to get a visual of how I organize my Daily 6 stations, you can go HERE and it will take you to the post I did earlier this summer along with the free station cards ... VIEW POST
