I was recently asked when I was scheduling an appointment if March 17th was a 'high holy day' in my family. I don't know why anyone would think that just because I have the last name of McGuire that St. Patrick's Day would be more special than any other day in my home. The truth is . . . it's not only a HUGE holiday at the McGuire household but it's an EPIC day (and month) in my classroom as well. I know, I know . . . some folks wonder 'why does every holiday have to be a party or something ... VIEW POST

100th Day Stations
Hands down, one of my most favorite days of the year is definitely the 100th Day of School. But as excited as I am with this day, my students are over-the-top excited. So to curb their out-of-control enthusiasm, I create some fun, but very manageable 100th Day Stations. SETTING THE STAGE FOR FUN It is a celebration for goodness sakes, so I have always liked to make the day special and NOTHING sends kids into a tizzy of excitement like a simple banner and, of course, lots and lots of ... Father’s Day Fish and a conversation about Papa!
Father's Day is fast approaching, and while it's a difficult day for my personally, I wanted to be able to share a project that you might want to take on for your own Father's Day celebration. I'm generally not THIS personal in my blog posts, but it has somehow evolved to this and so I hope you'll humor me and my 'sharing.' My own dad passed away five years ago, having only really known my two oldest boys. My oldest son was only 3 when dad left us and my second son was ... VIEW POST
Earth Day Fine Motor Freebies

This sampler packet will give you a little taste (definitely not the entire meal) of the different kinds of fine motor activities you can add into your instruction throughout the day just by using materials you may already have on hand. Of course, these activities are all geared toward an ... VIEW POST
Setting Up For A Successful Year Of Daily 5 In Kindergarten
The beginning of the kindergarten year is such a blur. About halfway through it, you try to look back and figure out exactly how it all started. It gets difficult to remember the hard work and organization that it took to get your from there to where you are now, but by remembering the parts that went well and the parts that didn't, you can always improve each year. So I'm trying, desperately to make sure I document these first days of math stations and now Daily 5 Stations so I can adjust ... VIEW POST
St. Patrick’s Day Books
February is gone and it’s time to get my green on just in time for the St. Patrick’s Day season. The first order of business is to collect my favorite St. Patrick's Day Books. A friend recently asked, 'when do you celebrate St. Patrick's Day? The week before or after? I am of the mindset that St. Patrick's is not a day, but a state of mind. I wait all year for this season, I like to start it as soon as March rolls around, and I make every second count. The first, step in getting your ... VIEW POST
