I was recently asked when I was scheduling an appointment if March 17th was a 'high holy day' in my family. I don't know why anyone would think that just because I have the last name of McGuire that St. Patrick's Day would be more special than any other day in my home. The truth is . . . it's not only a HUGE holiday at the McGuire household but it's an EPIC day (and month) in my classroom as well. I know, I know . . . some folks wonder 'why does every holiday have to be a party or something ... VIEW POST

100s Day Exhaustion and Streamers Are My Friend.
I'm 100 Days Exhausted! Yep. I said it! It took long enough to get here with all the snow days we've had in Northern Michigan, but we made it. 100 days!!! And if it wasn't enough for me to plan a 100s party. I also had a Minute to Win It 9th Birthday party for my son this weekend too. (I'll save pictures of that for later. You're gonna love it. It was GREAT fun but again . . . EXHAUSTED!!)So anyway, I know all the rest of you have already had the pleasure of ... VIEW POST
100th Day Stations
Hands down, one of my most favorite days of the year is definitely the 100th Day of School. But as excited as I am with this day, my students are over-the-top excited. So to curb their out-of-control enthusiasm, I create some fun, but very manageable 100th Day Stations. SETTING THE STAGE FOR FUN It is a celebration for goodness sakes, so I have always liked to make the day special and NOTHING sends kids into a tizzy of excitement like a simple banner and, of course, lots and lots of ... There are days when I thought we weren’t going to make it, but we finally did! We are now a 100 Days Smarter for the 2013-2014 school year. Despite many snow days which delayed it from happening (only 8 for my district so far), 100s Day has come and gone. As I like to tell my boys, we are now officially on the slippery downhill slope of the school year. Yippeee! But really, who doesn't love 100s day? All the celebrating and super charged fun are just more reasons to love kindergarten. ... VIEW POST
Earth Day Fine Motor Freebies
There's never a bad time to incorporate some fine motor goodness into your curriculum and since Earth Day is upon us, I thought I'd share some Earth Day Fine Motor Freebies to help you celebrate the day. This sampler packet will give you a little taste (definitely not the entire meal) of the different kinds of fine motor activities you can add into your instruction throughout the day just by using materials you may already have on hand. Of course, these activities are all geared toward an ... VIEW POST
St. Patrick’s Day Books
February is gone and it’s time to get my green on just in time for the St. Patrick’s Day season. The first order of business is to collect my favorite St. Patrick's Day Books. A friend recently asked, 'when do you celebrate St. Patrick's Day? The week before or after? I am of the mindset that St. Patrick's is not a day, but a state of mind. I wait all year for this season, I like to start it as soon as March rolls around, and I make every second count. The first, step in getting your ... VIEW POST
